Planning Your Whistler Winter Escape
A little planning goes a long way towards making the most of winter in Whistler. If skiing or snowboarding at Whistler Blackcomb is on your itinerary, consider purchasing your lift access in advance. Options such as the Whistler Blackcomb Day Pass, Season Pass and EDGE Card offer different ways to plan your time on the slopes, with pricing and availability varying throughout the season.
With winter being one of Whistler’s most sought-after seasons, we recommend arranging your stay, dining reservations and winter experiences ahead of arrival, particularly during holiday periods and peak dates. If you have a specific Whistler Blackcomb pass, be sure to review any blackout dates before confirming your travel plans. With the details taken care of in advance, you can settle into mountain life and enjoy a winter escape at your own pace.
Arriving in the Mountains: Your Winter Transportation Guide
The journey to Whistler is part of the experience, with the scenic Sea to Sky Highway connecting Vancouver to the mountains in approximately two hours, depending on road and weather conditions. New at Whistler Blackcomb for the 2026-27 season
Winter at Whistler Blackcomb brings another season of alpine exploration, with more than 8,100 acres of skiable terrain spanning two iconic mountains. From wide, groomed runs to challenging alpine descents, the resort offers a remarkable range of experiences for every stage of your skiing or snowboarding journey, all set against the Coast Mountains.
At Fairmont Chateau Whistler, the mountain experience begins just steps from your door. Located at the base of Blackcomb Mountain, the Chateau offers convenient access to the slopes, making it easy to spend the day exploring the alpine terrain before returning to the comfort of your mountain retreat.
A New Lift for High-Alpine Adventures
The 2026/27 winter season introduces the Showcase Quad Chair, replacing the existing Showcase T-Bar and improving access to the Horstman and Blackcomb glaciers. Covering approximately 215 acres of alpine terrain, this lift upgrade is designed to enhance access to one of the resort’s distinctive high-mountain areas.
Planning Your Ski Day Around the Winter Hours
With British Columbia moving to permanent daylight saving time, Whistler Blackcomb is adjusting its winter operating schedule. From opening day through January 15, most valley and alpine lifts are scheduled to operate from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., opening and closing 30 minutes later than in previous seasons. Snow School schedules will also shift during this period, with a return towards earlier starts expected around mid-February. Spring operating hours are planned to remain unchanged.
Before heading out, check the latest Whistler Blackcomb operating information for current lift schedules, weather conditions and mountain updates. With Blackcomb Mountain just outside the Chateau, you can plan your day around the conditions and your preferred pace on the slopes.
Taking a Break Between Runs
A day on the mountain is about more than time spent skiing or snowboarding. Whistler Blackcomb continues to evolve its on-mountain food and beverage offerings for the 2026/27 season, with updates planned across several locations, including Pika’s at the Roundhouse and outdoor patio experiences at Steeps Grill & Wine Bar and Christine’s on Blackcomb. These additions offer new ways to pause, recharge and take in the alpine surroundings before returning to the slopes.
Back at Fairmont Chateau Whistler, the transition from mountain adventure to après-ski relaxation comes naturally. Warm up in the heated indoor and outdoor pools, unwind in the hot tubs or cedar barrel sauna, or retreat to the comfort of your guest room after a day in the snow. With the mountains just outside your door, each winter day can unfold at your own pace.
