Experience the magic of winter from the comfort and elegance of Fairmont Chateau Whistler. Whether you’re passionate about powder turns, unforgettable family experiences, or après-ski indulgence, here’s what awaits you in Whistler this season:

Snow Forecast

Early Season (November – December): First Turns and Festive Vibes

  • Snowfall & Terrain
Expect a powerful start to the season with an average of 249 cm (98 in) of snow in November and 227 cm (89 in) in December. Mid-mountain pistes open early, often giving way to alpine terrain and ski-outs as snow accumulates.

  • Why It’s a Great Value
Early season offers superb value—less crowded slopes and attractive pricing, plus the charm of holiday anticipation.

  • Insider Tips
Whistler often opens its season earlier than scheduled, so be ready to ski a week or two before the official date. Bring your GORE-TEX gear—early-season weather can bring a mix of snow and precipitation.

Late December – Early January: Celebrations & All-Mountain Access

  • Winter Wonderland Atmosphere
The resort pulses with festive energy—Twinkling lights, holiday events, and the First Night New Year’s Celebration make this period magical.

  • Snow & Terrain
December sees a continued strong snowpack (~227 cm), and all terrain opens up across both mountains.

  • Pro Tips
Beat the morning rush by lining up early. Explore the higher elevations as more lifts come online throughout the day. For dining, plan meals before 11:30 a.m. or after 1 p.m. to avoid lines.

Early – Late January: Hit the Deep Winter

  • Snow & Terrain
January delivers around 187 cm (74 in) of snow, with all terrain fully accessible—perfect for every type of skier or rider.

  • Ideal Timing
The week after the holidays is one of the quietest—and offers the best access to open terrain.

  • Gear Tip
If you don’t own powder skis, renting a pair is strongly recommended—these conditions call for them.

February – Late March: Long Days & Powder Bliss

  • Snowfall Trends
February averages 158 cm (62 in), while March often sees an average of 248 cm (98 in)—earning it the nickname “Powder Month”.

  • Terrain Access
All terrain remains accessible, with longer days opening opportunities for fresh pursuits like heli-skiing, dog sledding, ziplining, and snowshoeing.

  • Local Wisdom
Skiing midweek (e.g. Tuesday–Thursday) means fewer crowds and more runs for you.

Spring Season (April – May): Sunshine, Deals & Celebration

  • Snow & Terrain
April offers 85 cm (33 in) of snow and May around 21 cm (8 in). Post–World Ski & Snowboard Festival, typically only one mountain remains open, focusing on mid-mountain pistes and limited alpine terrain.

  • What Makes It Special
Longer, milder days, lower prices, and a quieter ski scene make spring irresistible. Don’t miss the World Ski & Snowboard Festival, with concert series, competitions, and lively nightlife.

  • Spring Tip
Bring sunscreen—you’ll need it multiple times a day under the bright spring sun.

    Chateau Tip

Make your trip planning seamless by taking advantage of our Ultimate Ski Package offer, where you book your accommodation and lift ticket all together. Leaves you more time to study the terrain map.
