Low-Intensity, High-Reward Hikes & Viewpoints in Whistler
For guests looking to explore the beauty of British Columbia at a gentler pace, there are plenty of low-intensity, high-reward hikes and viewpoints that deliver all the scenery without the strain. Whether you’re seeking a morning stroll before brunch at The Wildflower or a peaceful afternoon outing with your camera, we’ve curated our favourite accessible adventures near Fairmont Chateau Whistler.

Lost Lake Loop
Distance: 4 km loop
Elevation: Minimal
Trailhead: Steps from the hotel via the Valley Trail
Tucked just beyond the hotel, Lost Lake is a local favourite for good reason. The well-maintained gravel trail loops around a serene alpine lake framed by towering evergreens. In the summer, the water is calm enough to reflect the mountains, and in autumn, the foliage turns into a painter’s palette. Bring a picnic courtesy of Portobello and your swimsuit—there are plenty of peaceful spots along the shore to take it all in. Vacationing with your dog? Stop by Canine Cove, a dog specific shore on the lake!

Train Wreck Trail
Distance: 2 km round-trip
Elevation: Minimal
Trailhead: Cheakamus Crossing (15-minute drive)
A true Whistler hidden gem, the Train Wreck Trail is an easy forest walk leading to a collection of vividly painted train cars scattered in the woods—remnants of a derailment from the 1950s. The trail also includes a scenic suspension bridge over the Cheakamus River. Art, history, and nature all rolled into one vibrant and photo-worthy stroll. View our Whistler Experience Guide schedule to reserve your tour, with transportation (included with your hotel stay).

Green Lake via the Valley Trail
Distance: Varies
Elevation: Flat
Trailhead: Access directly from the hotel
The Valley Trail is a paved multi-use path connecting neighbourhoods, lakes, and parks throughout Whistler. Heading north from Fairmont Chateau Whistler takes you past Fitzsimmons Creek and through beautiful forest corridors, eventually leading to Green Lake—one of Whistler’s most scenic spots. Go at your own pace and stop often; every bend offers a new perspective. Stop by the concierge for a complimentary map.

Rainbow Park
Distance: Short walk from park parking lot
Elevation: Flat
Trailhead: Alta Lake Road (15-minute drive from hotel or bike ride 5km one way)
One of the best lake-and-mountain views in the entire town, Rainbow Park provides stunning sightlines of Whistler and Blackcomb peaks across Alta Lake. It’s an easy destination with a huge payoff—perfect for golden hour or a leisurely picnic. With resent additions like beach volleyball courts, a dog beach and food trucks. Don’t be surprised if you linger longer than planned.

Ancient Cedars Trail
Distance: 5 km round-trip
Elevation: Gentle
Trailhead: Cougar Mountain Forest Service Road (25-minute drive)
While a bit off the beaten path, this mellow hike leads you through an enchanting old-growth forest to a grove of massive, centuries-old cedar trees. The trail has some slight undulation, but the reward is a peaceful, mossy sanctuary that feels a world away from the buzz of the Village. Note: stop by concierge to book a tour or drive yourself (a 4×4 vehicle required to access the trailhead).
Tips for a relaxed day on the trails:
- Bring water, snacks, and layers—mountain weather can change quickly.
- Stop by Portobello for trail-friendly eats and cold-beverage before heading out.
- Ask our Concierge team for directions, trail conditions, and custom recommendations.
