Q&A with Canada’s Drag Race Miss Congeniality, Hazel. Whistler Pride Festival Edition

Meet Hazel!

As Vancouver-based, multidisciplinary drag performer, Hazel is where jaw-dropping style meet heartfelt artistry. A former national-level diver turned drag sensation, she brings athletic precision, fearless passion, and undeniable personality to every stage she steps on. Hazel is building a bold brand rooted in authenticity, creativity, and community. Widely known as the IT girl of the Vancouver drag scene, she hosts her own weekly show Haze, a monthly drag bingo, and a growing list of can’t-miss appearances.

In January 2026, Hazel was crowned Miss Congeniality of Canada’s Drag Race Season 6—an honour celebrating contestants who radiate kindness, humour, and true camaraderie. The title speaks to the heart of drag culture and perfectly reflects Hazel’s commitment to uplifting others and creating space for joy, connection, and chosen family.

During Whistler Pride Festival, Hazel is a full-on main character. Find her leading show-stopping performances, creating unforgettable moments, and spreading plenty of sparkle throughout the Whistler Village. Book your stay, grab your tickets, and buckle up—Whistler Pride Festival with Hazel is going to be the time of your life!

Q: How has the energy of Whistler Pride changed for you over the years, and what is it about these mountains that keeps people coming back?

Hazel: Each year, the energy at Whistler Pride feels more exciting and alive. New faces join every season, drawn to the unique sense of community that comes together in the mountains for an entire week. The events and shows continue to grow—becoming bigger, more inclusive, and welcoming to everyone, not limited to any single demographic. What keeps people coming back is the freedom to show up as your most authentic self, surrounded by love, celebration, and connection. There’s something truly special about experiencing that kind of joy and acceptance in the mountains—it makes it unforgettable every time.

Q: Is there a specific ‘Whistler moment’ or memory that stands out to you as the perfect representation of what this festival is all about?

Hazel: One moment that always stands out to me is leading the Pride Parade down the slopes into the village. Being on skis, surrounded by so many out and proud people, all smiling from ear to ear, is incredibly powerful. Hearing the cheers grow louder as we make our way down the mountain and arrive to a crowd waiting below is a feeling I’ll never forget. That moment perfectly captures what Whistler Pride is all about—visibility, joy, and celebrating who we are together, unapologetically and loud.

Q: What types of events can I expect during the festival?

Hazel: Fairmont traditions are absolutely a must for me during Whistler Pride. Visiting the spa is always at the top of my list—it’s one of the best in the world in my opinion, and the level of care and welcome you receive at Fairmont Chateau Whistler is unmatched. The Vida Spa experience in winter is especially special, soaking in the outdoor hot tubs while surrounded by crisp mountain air.

Beyond that, no Whistler Pride itinerary is complete without the Pride Parade Ski Down, and this year I’m especially excited to be hosting ICONS Whistler at Longhorns. Being able to perform throughout the village and be part of these iconic moments is something I look forward to every single year.
