BC Vaccination Cards – FAQ

Fairmont Chateau Whistler’s top priority is the safety and wellbeing of our guests, employees and visitors. Following the announcement made by British Columbia’s Provincial Health Officer mandating proof of vaccination to enter certain businesses in the province to help curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Fairmont Chateau Whistler will require proof of vaccination to:

  • Dine at:
    • The Wildflower Restaurant
    • The Mallard Lounge and Terrace
    • Portobello Deli and Patio
    • The Clubhouse
    • Fairmont Gold Lounge        
  • Attend a meeting or event of 50 or more on the hotel premises
  • Visit the hotel Health Club + Fitness Centre
  • Attend the hotel’s yoga classes

At this time, Fairmont Chateau Whistler will not require proof of vaccination to:

  • Book a hotel room or to check into the hotel
  • Use the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club

Please note that the only exemption to this provincial mandate will be for children under 12 years of age who are not yet eligible to receive their vaccination.

People from out-of-province must show: officially recognized vaccine record and valid government photo ID.

Fairmont Chateau Whistler will continue to take all necessary steps to ensure our guests and colleagues are safe. In addition to this proof of vaccination mandate put in place by British Columbia’s health officials,we will continue to follow the additional preventative measures currently in place at the hotel, as advised by the experts at Johns Hopkins and Ecolab, which are aligned with our brand’s ALL Safe and Well safety standards.

Question: Can I still check into the hotel if I am not vaccinated?

Answer: Proof of vaccination will not be required for hotel guests to check into the hotel and while in their guest room. However, hotel guests and visitors 12 years of age and older will still be required to show proof of vaccination to:

  • Dine at:
    • The Wildflower Restaurant
    • The Mallard Lounge and Terrace
    • Portobello Deli and Patio
    • The Clubhouse
    • Fairmont Gold Lounge        
  • Attend a meeting or event of 50 or more on the hotel premises

Question: Where in the hotel will require proof of vaccination?

Answer: Proof of vaccination will be required to:

Question: Who will be checking my proof of vaccination?

Answer: Fairmont Chateau Whistler will have designated staff members trained to checked valid proof of vaccination along with valid government photo ID.

Question: Who will have access to my personal health information? (*Once the app is rolled out)

Answer: The program put in place by the BC PHO utilizes a secure and confidential verification system, which is meant to scan and confirm proof of vaccination without having to share any personal health information. Question: Will proof of vaccination be required to visit the pool/fitness centre?

Answer: At this time, guests staying at Fairmont Chateau Whistler are required to show proof of vaccination to enter the Health Club and pool facilities.

Question: Will you be canceling my booking if I am unable to show proof of vaccination?

Answer: At this time, Fairmont Chateau Whistlerwill not cancel any reservations unless otherwise instructed by the BC Provincial Health Officer.

Question: Can I still make a reservation if I am unable to show proof of vaccination?

Answer: At this time, Fairmont Chateau Whistleris still accepting all overnight hotel reservations and will not require proof of vaccination to check into the hotel or while in your guest room.

Question: When does this proof of vaccine mandate go into effect?

Answer: The BC Vaccination Card program will begin on Monday, September 13, 2021, requiring proof of receiving the first shot of the vaccine. As of October 24, proof of both vaccine shots will be required. This mandate is to be in effect until January 31, 2022 and is subject to extension.

Question: How do I show my proof of vaccination?

Answer (BC Residents): Prior to your arrival, please ensure you have completed the online registration for your BC Vaccination Card. This can be done on the BC PHO proof of vaccination website here: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/vaccinecard.html#card

Answer (Non-BC Residents): Travellers visiting BC from outside of the province will also be required to show proof of vaccination, and further information regarding how to show proof of vaccination for non-BC residents can be found here:

Question: How long will this vaccination policy be in place?

Answer: The BC Vaccination Card program will be in effect until January 31, 2022 and is subject to extension.

Question: Do I need proof of vaccination to attend a wedding/event at the hotel?

Answer: At this time, guests attending meetings and events of 50 or more at Fairmont Chateau Whistler are required to show proof of vaccination.

Question: I am a long-time loyal customer of Fairmont Chateau Whistler, can an exemption be made for me during my upcoming stay?

Answer: At this time, only children under the age of 12 who are not yet eligible for vaccination will be exempt from the proof of vaccination order, as per the mandate put in place by BC Provincial Health.

Question: I am unable to receive the vaccine due to health/religious reasons, can an exemption be made for me during my upcoming stay?

Answer: At this time, only children under the age of 12 who are not yet eligible for vaccination will be exempt from the proof of vaccination order, as per the mandate put in place by BC Provincial Health.

Question: Are hotel staff required to be fully vaccinated?

Answer: At this time, BC Provincial Health is not requiring businesses to make vaccinations mandatory for employees. Fairmont Chateau Whistler will follow guidance provided by the BC PHO and BC Hotel Association, and should this change and staff be required to show proof of vaccination, we will follow the mandate accordingly.

That said, Fairmont Chateau Whistler is strongly urging staff to receive their vaccination, and has provided useful tools and resources to ensure all colleagues have the appropriate information to complete their vaccination as advised.
