Chateau Whistler Is A Hive Of Activity During National Pollinator Month
Whistler, BC – Sustainability efforts are an ongoing focus for Fairmont Chateau Whistler staff however the hotel is truly abuzz with activity for the duration of National Pollinator Month in June.
Guests can experience a different kind of “Bee+B” when staying at Fairmont Chateau Whistler with the hotel’s “Bee Sustainable Offer”. With 10% off the daily rate, a $50 hotel dining credit, plus a donation of CAD $10 per stay to the Pollinator Partnership, guests will rest easy knowing they’re doing their part for pollination.
The dining credit can bee best enjoyed with Chef Isabel’s Honey Granola Parfait in The Wildflower, the Grill Room’s BC Cedar Plank Salmon with rooftop honey glaze, a Chip-Out Cheeseburger with honey bacon at The Clubhouse, or the Summer Salad in The Mallard Lounge with mixed greens, pickled cherries, roasted almonds, and rooftop honey and citrus vinaigrette, among many other options. For a tasty treat, young and young-at-heart guests will enjoy the bee-autiful Honey Bee Donut at Portobello Deli.
Fairmont Chateau Whistler recently introduced its Bees Knees #2 cocktail – a Prohibition-era cocktail marking the 100th anniversary of this milestone – with house-made Beeswax Gin (beeswax sous vide with Canadian Ungava gin). This timely tipple is extra sweet as part proceeds from each drink sold go toward the Pollinator Partnership, the world’s largest nonprofit devoted solely to the health of all pollinators.
Hotel guests and Whistler visitors alike can take a sweet treat home with them. The hotel’s house-made “Honey Bear” signature chocolate, introduced last year on World Chocolate Day, is comprised of blonde chocolate, Fairmont Chateau Whistler rooftop honey, plus British Columbia blueberries and almonds, two ingredients which rely entirely on pollination for their existence. Honey Bear chocolate can be purchased at Portobello Deli, as can jars of Chateau honey and other honey-themed items.
From mid-June, thrice weekly rooftop herb garden and beehive tours will be conducted for all guests of Fairmont Chateau Whistler. Lead by the hotel’s gardening team, guests will learn about the different bees that reside at the Fairmont “bee hotel” and hives, as well as the impact the various flowers and herbs have on these local pollinators.
